Preparation work is being carried out on the Eden Project Morecambe site this week.

Site investigation works are taking place on the land off Marine Road, ahead of the first phase of the £100m scheme – the Bring Me Sunshine Garden – being built, starting next month.

Signs have been put up around the area and workers have been on site yesterday (July 22) and today, with the works due to finish tomorrow (July 24).

In June, the Eden project team and partners said that groundworks will begin this August on a new 1.5-acre, free-to-enter community garden called 'the Bring Me Sunshine Garden', during a breaking ground ceremony which took place at the site.

This will be the first phase of the development, set to open in spring 2027.

The start of the main build will follow in late 2026.

The garden won two awards at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May.

The garden will become the first feature at Eden Project Morecambe, forming part of a 1.6-acre public community garden on the central Promenade land.

It will stretch from next to the Midland hotel to the popular wishing well on the Prom, which will remain and become part of the garden, along with the war memorial.

The Eden Project said the garden will become a living classroom, community hub and beacon of regeneration, rooted in both the natural and cultural heritage of Morecambe Bay. It will include areas of shelter and seating, and patches for horticulture enthusiasts and local community groups to work on.

Named after the trademark song of Morecambe-born TV comic Eric Morecambe and his partner Ernie Wise, the garden has been created with help from young people from the town.

The garden has been designed by multi award-winning garden designer Harry Holding and architect Alex Michaelis.

Part of the Bring Me Sunshine Garden went on display at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May.

Earlier this year, VINCI Building were announced as the main contractor for building the Eden Project Morecambe.

Bosses said Eden Project Morecambe remains on track to open in winter 2028.

They said the attraction will be "an immersive visitor destination celebrating the natural rhythms, ecology and heritage of Morecambe Bay" that "will transform the central promenade into a vibrant, year-round destination, featuring striking shell-inspired structures housing immersive environments exploring humanity’s relationship with the natural world".

Once complete, the project is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and to support more than 1,000 jobs across construction and the wider regional economy.

Eden Project Morecambe is being delivered, on the former Dome and Bubbles site and surrounding central Promenade area, by the Eden Project – the globally recognised educational charity, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year – working in partnership with Lancaster City Council, Lancashire County Council and Lancaster University, with the support of UK Government investment.

Previous site investigation works were carried out on other parts of the site in 2023 and 2025.
