A six-court centre for the rising sport of padel is set to open on a business park in Lancaster.

Planning permission has been granted for the new indoor facility at Lune Business Park close to St George's Quay.

Padel is a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, and is usually played in doubles.

Lune Business Park owners, Manchester-based property group Hurstwood Holdings, submitted the application for the new six court indoor padel facility earlier this year.

Last week Lancaster City Council granted planning permission to demolish an existing building (retrospective) at Brockbank Avenue on the £40m business park, and build a replacement building for flexible use, including indoor sport and recreation.

In May, the company said they would design and build the 15,000 sq ft warehouse style building, which would subsequently be fitted out and operated by P4 Padel, a new venture founded by Harry Walker, having agreed a five year lease.

“Padel is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country and we are so pleased that we are able to bring this exciting sector into our portfolio, working alongside an innovative and exciting new operator," said Sam Ashworth, Chief Executive Officer of Hurstwood Holdings, speaking in May.

"P4 Padel is an ambitious new challenger brand with a clear vision for creating accessible, state of the art venues and we are delighted to be working with Harry and his team on their first site.

"Lune Business Park has already established itself as a thriving business and leisure destination and the addition of a dedicated padel centre, which will be situated adjacent to gym operator, TNT Elite and nearby Lancaster Climbing Wall, will further strengthen the range of fantastic amenities available on the development.”

The launch date of P4 Padel will be announced soon.

"We are excited about the opportunity, in a great city that has no padel facilities to date - we can’t wait to get started," said Mr Walker, speaking this week.

"Building is well under way on the Lune Valley Business Park and we are trying to use local businesses to deliver our club, keeping our investment in the local economy.”

Meanwhile plans for outdoor padel courts at Salt Ayre Sports Centre in Lancaster were revealed earlier this month.

A planning application by Soul Padel Ltd is awaiting a decision from Lancaster City Council.

In 2025, plans were submitted by Lune Valley Padel Ltd to convert a former depot at Keer Park, Warton Road in Carnforth into padel courts. This application was withdrawn earlier this year.
