Heavyweight boxing champion, Tyson Fury, says he’s been offered the chance to buy Morecambe Football Club.
The 34-year-old made the announcement on TalkSPORT this morning (October20), when he was interviewed ahead of a press conference confirming his bout with Derek Chisora on December 3rd.
At the end of the interview with hosts Jim White and Simon Jordan, the former owner of Crystal Palace, Fury said: ‘’I am thinking of buying Morecambe Football Club. They are in League One at the moment. I was thinking that I invest X amount of millions in them, basically throw it at them, and keep them up, keep them going up."
Jim White replied: "Are you serious?"
Fury responded: "Yeah. I'm really thinking about it. I've been offered to buy Morecambe Football Club. I own all the training facilities anyway and the training gym, so who knows? You might be looking at a football club owner.
"I know that (Simon) has had a lot of experience so I'm going to be calling him for the tips."
Fury is already involved with the Shrimps, and his ‘Gypsy King’ brand is currently the men’s first team short sponsor, as well as being the front of shirt sponsor for Morecambe Women.
Last month it was announced that the club was for sale.
In a statement, they said the club’s owners, Bond Group, were preparing the club for sale, part of which involved Jason Whittingham and Colin Goldring stepping back from their positions on the board of directors.
The pair have owned Morecambe since May 2018.
Beyond Radio has contacted Morecambe FC, with the club declining to make any comment at this time.
