VIDEO and INTERVIEW: Lancaster schoolboy, 10, makes drum 'n' bass DJ debut at Lancaster festival

Chase Coates, 10, made his drum 'n' bass DJ debut at Highest Point festival

A 10-year-old boy from Lancaster is now aiming for Glastonbury after making his debut as a DJ at Highest Point festival.

Last year Chase Coates was in the crowd at the Lancaster arts and music festival in Williamson Park, watching his drum 'n' bass heroes.

This year, Chase was the star of the show after organisers gave him the chance to perform beside the Ashton Memorial - in his very first DJ set in front of a paying audience.

The Grosvenor Park Primary School pupil opened up the Memorial Stage on day one on Friday, and afterwards said: "It was really good and fun!"

His proud dad Matt said: "I'm probably the proudest dad in the world right now.

"To see your son step up on a stage and just smash it in front of the crowd, was such an incredible feeling.

"We've come every year to Highest Point and last year we came. Chase has always had a bit of an obsession with drum 'n' bass, it just runs through the family.

Chase and Matt are pictured below at Highest Point on Friday.

"Last year he was on my shoulders through a DJ called Turno's set.

"Turno filmed him watching it getting excited by it, sent me the video the next day, had a bit of a chat, Chase decided to send him a few voice clips, told him he wanted to be a DJ when he grew up, and Turno very very kindly sent him the entire DJ equipment that he needed to get himself going.

"Fast forward a year and here we are!"

Chase said after the gig: "I'm feeling very proud of myself. It's so good.

"My favourite moment when I was DJing was when everyone started coming in. I felt like a proper superstar!

"My friends didn't believe me at the start but when the posters started coming out, they said 'he is doing it'! It was well fun.

"I really want to do Glastonbury! I'd be just, mind blown, I'd be so happy!"

Chase has been a drum 'n' bass fan since the age of three, becoming hooked after listening to his dad's music.

He was also supported at his debut show by mum Leanne, nana Mary and little brother Coby.
