Children at the primary school attended by Eric Morecambe have wished him a happy 100th birthday in a very special way.

Pupils at Lancaster Road Primary School decorated all the classroom doors with an Eric Morecambe theme in honour of the legendary comedian's centenary.

The school is very proud of its famous old boy, and really embraced his centenary as the children learned many facts about Eric.

Beyond Radio spoke to Ava, six, Zola, 11, Katie, 11, Poppy, 11, Felicity, 11, Ashton, nine, Alfie, nine, and Kayden, seven, about the Morecambe and Wise star and what he meant to them.

"He was a very very funny person and we are all proud to have had him as a student at our school," said Poppy.

Eric Morecambe was born in the town on May 14 1926 and went to Lancaster Road from 1932 to 1937, as one of the very first pupils at the school after it opened.

He went on to become one half of the much-loved and world famous comedy double act Morecambe and Wise.

The school was also gifted a portrait painting of Eric by artist Dave Miles, which was unveiled at Lancaster Road Primary on Thursday, the date of Eric's 100th birthday.
