Householders across the Lancaster and Morecambe District can now order additional red or yellow-lidded bins if they need more space to recycle - at no cost.
The council said residents can now request extra 240 litre standard size recycling bins "without a service charge for the immediate future to help you recycle as much as possible".
The new red and yellow-lidded recycling bins, for plastics, glass and cans (red), and paper and cardboard (yellow), were introduced earlier this year across the Lancaster and Morecambe District.
They were part of changes to recycling including a switch from a fortnightly bin collection cycle to every three weeks.
Smaller recycling boxes were replaced with wheelie bins and weekly food waste collections were reintroduced, with new food caddies being delivered to households.
These changes were prompted by the Government’s Simpler Recycling policy that aims to increase local authority recycling rates in England to at least 65 per cent by 2035 and half all residual waste sent to landfill or incineration by 2042.
"You can now request extra recycling bins if you have space to store them on your property (240 litre standard size)," said a Lancaster City Council spokesperson on Monday.
"We are supplying these without a service charge for the immediate future to help you recycle as much as possible.
"All you need to do is complete this online form HERE.
"If you do not have space for extra bins, remember to squash your cans and plastic bottles to create more space, and flatten your cardboard."
The council also said householders can request extra food waste recycling caddies with no service charge.
Householders ordering extra grey non-recyclable waste bins (£30) or the smaller recycling boxes (£9.60) will still pay the service charge.
Service charges are a one-off cost for the administration and provision of the containers. The containers remain the property of Lancaster City Council.
Replacement garden waste wheeled bins (green lid) can only be ordered if you have a current valid garden waste subscription.
