Mayor of Lancaster saddles up for charity race night

Councillor Colin Hartley, mayor of Lancaster

The mayor of Lancaster is inviting residents to get their glad rags on for a Race Night in aid of his two chosen charities.

Councillor Colin Hartley will host the event at Morecambe Town Hall on Friday October 2 to raise funds for Morecambe Bay Foodbank and Citizens Advice North Lancashire.

It's the second big fundraiser of Mayor Hartley's mayoral year, following on from a hugely popular wine tasting evening in July, which raised almost £1,000 for the two charities.

Between them, Morecambe Bay Foodbank and Citizens Advice North Lancashire support more than 15,000 people across the District each year.

Morecambe Bay Foodbank provides emergency food parcels to residents in need, and last year supported over 900 children by providing free school uniforms.

Citizens Advice North Lancashire is an advice charity, here for everyone, whoever you are, whatever your problem.

Doors open at 6.30pm, with racing getting under way at 7pm and running through to 11pm.

"I'm really looking forward to this one," said Councillor Hartley.

"After the success of the wine tasting, I know the Race Night is going to be a brilliant, fun evening for everyone who comes along.

"Morecambe Bay Foodbank and Citizens Advice North Lancashire do such special, often unseen work supporting people right here in our community, and it means a lot to be able to help raise funds and awareness for them both."

Tickets are £5 and available from the mayor's office by emailing mayor@lancaster.gov.uk or calling 01524 582065.

Advance booking is essential.
